About Dr. Sherry Yang, DAOM, L.Ac.
Sherry's TCM practice is heavily influenced by her training and research background in Western medicine. In 1985, she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree of Medicine from Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University (formerly Shanghai Medical University). Before coming to the U.S. in 1993, Sherry was a physician and practiced psychological medicine for eight years at Zhongshan Hospital in Shanghai, China. In 2003, Sherry graduated with a Master's of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine (MSTCM) from the Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Science (ACCHS). She later served as the Director of Academic Affairs at ACCHS from 2003-2004.
In January 2012, Sherry obtained her Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) in San Franciscoπ upon completion of her doctoral thesis, entitled "Menopausal Insomnia: Proposal for Evaluating Acupuncture Treatment and Its Effectiveness."
Professional Expertise
Since 2003, Sherry has worked closely with Dr. Marti Lee Kennedy at the Ashby Center for Complementary Medicine on women's health issues, placing special emphasis on fertility and pregnancy. On Mondays, she works at the ACCHS Community Clinic as an interpreter for her mentor, Dr. Shaohua Li, who has practiced as a specialist in TCM Gynecology in both China and the United States for over 62 years. Sherry is also a professional member of RESOLVE Northern California.
Since September 2008, Sherry has served on the faculty of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) in San Francisco as a clinical supervisor. She also served as an expert consultant on the State of California Acupuncture Board from December 2014 to December 2017.
Teaching Expertise
Sherry enjoys teaching as much as practicing. As an assistant professor in the Department of Psychological Medicine at Shanghai Medical University, she lectured medical students on topics such as stress, insomnia, depression, anxiety disorders, and cognitive behavior therapy for eight years.
As a teacher at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) in San Francisco and Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences (ACCHS) in Oakland, Sherry has taught courses since 2000, including the following:
Traditional Chinese Medical Diagnoses I and II (including Pulse Diagnosis and Tongue Diagnosis)
Integrated Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine
Western Medical Diagnostic Tests
Western Medical Sciences I and II
TCM Gynecology (starting January 2018) at ACCHS
Acupuncture Research Methods and Evaluation (co-taught with her husband, Eddy Lin)
Personal
Sherry has resided in Albany, CA since 1993 with her husband Eddy and their pet birds. Their daughter Cary is a wellness and beauty entrepreneur living in Santa Monica, CA. When Sherry is not at the clinic or teaching, Sherry enjoys photography, spending time her with cockatiels, reading, knitting, sewing, and cooking.
